Mayfly Cottage is a charming thatched retreat located along the famed Glann Road, just five minutes from Oughterard village and perched along the shores of Lough Corrib, Ireland’s largest lake. Surrounded by lush woodlands and peaceful walking trails, the cottage has long been a landmark of the Glann Road, with lovingly maintained gardens and a timeless feel. This location is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to hiking, angling, golfing, and lake cruising. Oughterard serves as the gateway to Connemara, while still offering the convenience of being only 25 minutes from Galway City.

Other things to note:

- While the home is generally pet friendly please check with us before arrival.
- Cottage is in a remote location and mobile network is very poor
- Care should be taken with small children and animals as the garden is not fully fenced off.

ACTIVITIES:

Boating and fishing:
Set on the shores of Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland. Oughterard is an internationally renowned fishing destination particularly for brown trout and salmon fishing. Angling on the Lough Corrib is free of charge.
Boats are available for hire on several locations including on the Glann Road near to Mayfly cottage.

Golfing:
Oughterard Golf club is a magnificent 18 hole championship parkland course lined with mature native Irish trees. Facilities include a clubhouse, pro-shop and restaurant.

Corrib cruises:
The ‘Corrib Queen’ departs from Oughterard pier daily (except Tuesdays) for a picturesque lake cruise with awe inspiring views of the Connemara mountains and the beauty of Lough Corribs 365 islands. The cruise visits the historic Inchagoill Island with a guided tour of St. Patrick’s monastic site dating from the 5th century and onward to the quaint village of Cong (famous as the location for the classic film ‘The Quiet Man’) and Ashford Castle the former summer home of the Guinness family.

Walking trails:
There are numerous walking trails in the area of varying difficulty including the New Village walk a 5km moderate walking trail which follows the Owenriff River through forest plantations of spruce and pine to the Glann road with spectacular views of the lake.
